Fishbowl Discussion
For this, there will be an inner circle and an outer circle. There will also be 7 desks in the center of the room in a smaller circle. 6 students will sit in these desks (1 desk will always remain empty). The students in the center desks will start the discussion. When a student sitting in the larger circle on the outside has something to say, he/she will get out of his/her desk and sit in the empty desk and join the discussion. One person will leave the discussion circle and move to the outside at that time. The number of desks in the middle can vary depending on the number of students in the class.

Barometer
This can be used for a variety of activities to show where students fall on their beliefs or understanding. This way they can show exactly where they are. I feel like this could best be used to show their feelings on how confident they are in their abilities and where they are weak.

Fly Swatter Game
This activity can be used for so many different things--it is commonly used with vocabulary. On one section of the board, write all of the vocabulary words. Divide the class in half. The students will come up to the board two at a time (one from each team) with a fly swatter in their hands. The teacher will pick a definition to read to the class, and each students at the board (with no help from their peers) will swat at the word. Because it would defeat the purpose of the game, do not allow the students to swat at all of the words until they hit it. You can determine how many swats they get before they are eliminated for that round (it would depend on the number of vocabulary words).
